Saving Keystrokes by Diana Rolland is a Great Resource for Creating Typing Shortcuts

There is a great book for helping you develop a system for using shortcuts with your expander. It is called “Saving Keystrokes”by Diana Rolland. I think it also goes by the title of “When The Name Of The Game Is Saving Keystrokes". It depends on where you buy it.

It goes step by step for different methods of adding shortcuts to your expander..any expander..so that you will remember them and actually use them. It's kinda the ABCZ method, but in depth with references to the exceptions to the rules. It has helped me quite a bit.

The Saving Keystrokes book is a very good intro to how to use an expander and what to think of when developing your shortcuts. It is in workbook format, with lines to fill in for what your abbreviations are for some lists. It does not cover every possibility, but does have so as to give you a good idea on how to develop your own method. Diana Rollan suggests making a root, such as db for diabetes.

Then have set abbreviations for the endings like c for -ic.
Therefore, dbc = diabetic.
incl for include, then g = ing, so inclg = including. d = -ed, so incld = included.

The idea is to build on your roots to make words and phrases.iddb = insulin-dependent diabetesiddbc = insulin-dependent diabetic dbm = diabetes mellitus dbm2 = diabetes mellitus type 2 etc.
